Letter Written by a Friend

Dear Mr. Councilor,

I have come across a problem. A close friend of mine, he is a great student and great friend, is suffering. He is having problems at home, but he won’t get help. Me and his other friends have told him to go tell someone, but he refuses to. I don’t know what to do. If I tell someone about it, I feel like I’m betraying him, but if I don’t I also feel like I’m betraying him. He’s my friend and I care about him. Please, I’m confused and don’t know what to do.

It is all about his father. He hurts him, hurts him bad. His mother knows, but she doesn’t do anything about it. His brothers look up to his father, and admire him, but they know what he does. My friend has come to school bruised because of his dad, and we have all seen it.

Something hasn’t happened in a little over a year, but I’m afraid it’s going to happen again. It’s been a continuous thing for years. But he always yells, every day to him. My friend has to go to a hostile home and live under verbal abuse everyday. He cannot escape, because if he tries, it only gets worse for him. His dad has threatened him before, including breaking his jaw. I’m sick of this happening to him.

Please, I don’t know what to do, but he needs help. He needs to get out of that place, and his dad needs to be stopped.

-Concerned Student
